María Zardoya, frontwoman of the psychedelic-soul and indie pop band the Marías, has announced her debut solo project under the banner "Not for Radio." While the band has been making music together for nearly eight years as a four-piece, Zardoya made it clear that her solo venture will not mark the end of the group — the Marías will continue on.
On Wednesday, Zardoya went live on the the Marías' official Instagram account wearing a large white T-shirt with the words "I made a solo project" written in all-black capital lettering. She then went live with another Instagram account with the username "Not for Radio," and revealed the incoming project, teasing collaborations and more.

"I made a solo project, don't worry, the band will be here forever," Zardoya said in an Instagram caption. "I love making music as The Marías, and nothing will ever change that. But I wanted to challenge myself to create a project that resonated with me. There are layers to who we all are as individuals, and this is another layer of me, another flower in the garden. welcome to my alternate reality."
The shirt she wore on the Instagram live was on sale on her web store, but is now listed as "sold out." The "Not for Radio" Instagram account has also shared a video trailer featuring stills of a blooming flower with Zardoya saying, "I keep asking myself the question: Is love worth the pain?"
The Marías' most recent full-length album, "Submarine," earned mass critical acclaim and landed the band on stages like Coachella and as the opening act for Billie Eilish's "Hit Me Hard and Soft" tour. The group has also been featured on Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's "Ojos Tristes," and Bad Bunny's "Otro Atardecer," among other notable releases.
