The Chrisley family returns with a new series titled The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, premiering as a two-night event Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.

The new series follows the brood as they navigate family hardship surrounding Todd and Julie Chrisley's legal woes

This announcement follows Todd and Julie's release from prison on May 28, following a pardon from President Donald Trump

The Chrisley family's grand return to reality TV has officially arrived.

On Thursday, July 31, Lifetime unveiled the long-awaited trailer for the brood's new series titled The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, which is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions — and PEOPLE has the exclusive first look.

The series will follow the Chrisley family, consisting of parents Todd and Julie Chrisley, along with Chase Chrisley, Savannah Chrisley, Grayson Chrisley, Chloe Chrisley and Nanny Faye Chrisley, navigating life as the longtime couple "are eventually pardoned, released from prison and return home." The series "shows a side of the Chrisleys that has never been seen before with exclusive access to the family," including Julie's parents, Harvey and Pam, joining the bunch onscreen for the first time.

"The new series exposes the raw truth of the Chrisley's lives — past and present — and the reality is far different from what audiences have seen before. The family faces a critical point that will either make their bond stronger or leave it shattered forever. This series delivers an unfiltered, deeply personal look at their journey and introduces the real Chrisleys as they navigate this new chapter."

The trailer opens with Savannah, 27, and her parents' lawyer, Alex Little, speaking with Todd, 57, over the phone while behind bars. "We will get through this. I don't know how it's going to end. But at some point, the truth is going to come out," Todd says.

As footage of Julie and the family appears, the 52-year-old is heard saying: "I live every day with the hopes that I will be reunited with my husband and my kids, and my parents and my mother-in-law."

"Do you think there's a possibility that I can get outta here before I need a face lift?" Todd then asks Savannah and his attorney, leading to chuckles from the pair.

The family, in separate confessionals, reflects on what a sensation they were worldwide before Todd and Julie's conviction and sentencing occurred. They then addressed the impact Todd and Julie's incarceration had on everyone.

"My dad always told me, 'I'm sorry that I couldn't apologize for something I didn't do,'" Chase, 19, says.

Savannah is then shown tearing up, recalling the moment she bid farewell to her parents. An equally teary-eyed Nanny Faye, 81, also notes that the family "was still all in a fog" over everything that went down, adding, "I hate that I'm emotional, but I can't help it."

"Not having my parents around almost felt like a death," Chase, 29, said.

Additionally, Savannah says that the Chrisley "household is completely divided" amid Todd and Julie's absence. "I told my parents I don't know if it can ever be repaired, honestly," she adds.

After Savannah notes that she knew they were "on the cusp" of a pardon, the trailer shows the moment the entire family — specifically, Todd and Julie — are reunited following the pair's release from prison.

The moment Julie steps out of the car, donning her natural brown hair, she immediately hugs her 12-year-old daughter, Chloe. The matriarch then embraces Todd, who is then seen wiping tears away in the next scene.

"Well, we survived," Julie says. "We survived."

Thereafter, Julie's mom tells her in a separate scene: "You haven't seen your spouse for three years. It's never going to be like it is. And if they say that, then that's not true."

However, the longtime couple is focused on sharing their truth, as Julie then says, "We can tell this story today, and then, we can be done with this part of our life."

"I'm looking at this as me exposing the truth," Todd concludes. "And depending on how long this interview goes, you might see more than what you bargain for."

The family was supposed to pick up with a new show. The series, previously announced by PEOPLE in August 2023, eventually fell through, with Savannah telling PEOPLE that "there were some things that were done that I did not like."

"I'm not getting myself in a situation I don't feel comfortable and safe in," she added.

Todd and Julie's legal problems began in 2018, when they were indicted by a federal grand jury on 12 counts of bank and wire fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Todd and Julie Chrisley huggingProsecutors accused the couple of using their production company to hide over $2 million in state taxes from 2008 to 2016.

Following their trial, both were found guilty on all counts. Todd was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie was sentenced to 7, with each also given 16 months probation.

In February, Savannah confirmed to PEOPLE the family's plans to request a pardon from President Donald Trump, which was granted three months later on May 27. They were released the following day.

White House Representative Harrison Fields said that "[Trump is] always pleased to give well-deserving Americans a second chance, especially those who have been unfairly targeted and overly prosecuted by an unjust justice system," according to NBC. President Trump himself stated, "I don't know them, but give them my regards and wish them good luck."
