A baby died after a "medical incident" at a Minnesota daycare this week, prompting the business' suspension and police to warn parents to monitor their children for "concerning symptoms."

The Savage Police Department, according to a press release from the agency posted on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are jointly investigating the infant's death at Rocking Horse Ranch Childcare facility, a daycare in Savage, about 20 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis.

According to the police department, the infant's death took place "following a medical incident" that occurred on Monday, Sept. 22.

USA TODAY has reached out to the daycare.

A reporter's call to the business went unanswered on Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, and the business was listed as "temporarily closed" online.

Police did not release additional details about the medical episode or say where the child was pronounced dead.

The child's identity will be released after a preliminary autopsy is completed and next of kin are notified, the police department wrote.

"Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time," the agency wrote.

The body of the child, whose age and sex were not released, was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 24, it was not immediately known whether anyone had been arrested in connection to the case.

Alert issued by police: Monitor children for 'concerning symptoms'

"As a precautionary measure, families with children who attend this childcare facility should closely monitor their children and seek immediate medical attention if they exhibit altered mental status, unusual behavioral changes, or other concerning symptoms," the department wrote.

The investigation remained active and ongoing on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

The agency was asking anyone with information about the incident call Detective Sergeant Andrew Dahmes at 952-882-2601.
