Minimal, of course, is a relative term. The Barcelona-based designer, known for her exuberant approach to color and pattern, was dressed in head-to-toe orange, accessorized with vintage woven Prada pumps (which she owns in several colorways).
The occasion was a cocktail party celebrating her new collaboration with Larkspur & Hawk, the New York jewelry label founded by Emily Satloff. The two designers, along with their third co-host, writer and tastemaker Tatiana Hambro Arader, gathered friends at Thirty8East, a private art gallery founded by Ashlee Harrison and housed in an Upper East Side townhouse, where an exhibition titled Origins is currently on showcase. On the agenda: a collection of candy-colored rivière necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings that marries Miró's playful sensibility with Satloff's fascination with Georgian-era jewelry.
The collection could be spotted around the necks, dangling from the ears, and sparkling on the fingers of guests throughout the room. All three hosts wore the same colorful rivière necklace, though each styled it differently. Satloff paired hers with a vintage floral-jacquard skirt and black high-necked top, while Hambro Arader wore hers backwards, cascading down the open back of a lavender Colleen Allen dress. Three women, one necklace, and three entirely different approaches to getting dressed. Elsewhere, guests including Maria de la Orden, Batsheva Hay, Angelica Hicks, Charlotte Groeneveld, Becky Malinsky Shiah, and Lilly Sisto mingled over Champagne.
The collection features vibrant hues of red, blue, green, and yellow, including a playful take on stripes—a signature of Miró's fashion label La Veste, which she cofounded with Maria de la Orden (who was also in attendance). "What about stripes?" Miró recalled asking Satloff. "Stripes are really hard to do in jewelry," Satloff explained. The solution was to layer strands of different-colored stones, creating a striped effect when worn together.
Other discoveries were more accidental. Satloff recalled experimenting with two different colorways of earrings before pairing them together on a whim. "It was by accident," she said of the resulting mismatched pair. Miró, meanwhile, has become an unlikely earring convert. "I've never really been an earrings person," she admitted. "But since we designed these, I haven't wanted to take them off!"
The two designers' friendship began in 2018, when Satloff spotted Miró wearing one of her necklaces during New York Fashion Week and reached out over Instagram. They corresponded for years before finally meeting in person last year, when they discovered they were wearing nearly identical arrangements of rings. A shared love of antique jewelry, color, and unconventional styling eventually blossomed into the collaboration.
For the celebration, Hambro Arader oversaw the evening's creative direction, arranging the jewels among frosted fruits, silver serving pieces, and colorful textiles. Later, she moderated an informal conversation between the two designers, which touched on their creative upbringings, shared love of antiques, and the historical techniques behind Larkspur & Hawk. Satloff, a former museum curator, explained how she became fascinated by the Georgian practice of placing thin sheets of metallic or colored foil beneath gemstones to enhance their color and luminosity. The foil itself, she explained, was rather like "a candy wrapper" beneath the stone. Which might explain why the finished pieces look so deliciously irresistible!
