Wegmans recalls two Deluxe Unsalted Mixed Nuts products for possible Salmonella
Affected lots include 34-oz tubs and 11.5-oz bags sold through multiple locations and online
Customers can return all recalled items to the service desk for full refunds
Wegmans has issued a recall for two varieties of its Deluxe Unsalted Mixed Nuts due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to a safety notice the grocery chain posted to its website on Dec. 2.
The recall covers both 34-ounce family packs and 11.5-ounce standard bags. The popular grocery chain said that the larger tubs can be identified by UPC 0-77890-42131-4, a "Best By" date of July 28, 2026, and a lot number of DC 58041.
The date and lot code appear on the side of the container below the lid. The recalled 11.5-ounce bags carry UPC 0-77890-42135-2, a "Best By" date of August 10, 2026, and lot number DC 58171, which are printed on the back of the bag near the bottom.
The chain did not specify how Salmonella may have entered the products. Still, the company warned customers that the bacteria can cause Salmonellosis, the most common form of bacterial food poisoning in the United States.
PEOPLE reached out to Wegman's for comment and the exact number of packages that were recalled from store locations but did not immediately receive a response.
According to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), symptoms often include stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, headache, nausea and vomiting. Most cases resolve without medical treatment within a few days. Still, the illness can be more serious in infants, older adults, people with weakened immune systems and those living with sickle cell disease.
Health experts explain that Salmonella infection occurs when enough of the bacteria survive the body's natural defenses and reach the intestines, where they can damage the intestinal lining and make it difficult to absorb water. This process can lead to cramping and rapid fluid loss through diarrhea.
Wegmans advises anyone who purchased either product to stop consuming it immediately. All recalled nuts can be returned to any store's service desk for a full refund, regardless of whether the package has been opened.
As of the time of this publication, the company has not reported any illnesses linked to the recall, but says the alert was issued out of caution while the affected lots are removed from shelves.
