Eva Longoria Reveals Why She Waited Until She Was 43 to Become a Mom

Eva Longoriais getting candid about becoming a mom for the first time at 43.

Speaking withTheTimesin an interview published Saturday, Nov. 22, theDesperate Housewivesalum, 50, spoke about the wisdom and experience that comes with being a mother in your forties.

"You have so much more wisdom and patience when you become a mother in your forties," she told the outlet. "It was all about me for so long. Forty years of me was enough time, so I was really blessed to have my child later in life because I had travelled, I'd done everything I needed to do for my career."

"Now everything I do is just icing on the cake and I get to do that with my son," Longoria said.

While Longoria joked that it might be preferable to "have my 20-year-old body with my 50-year-old mind," she also shared that she is hopeful she can "age well."

"We're all aging," she said. "It's happening, so you have no choice but to embrace it. I just want to age well. I want to be able to move, hike, get up and down stairs. I'm still carrying my son and he's 7."

TheOnly Murders in the Buildingstar also spoke about how motherhood has helped her become more discerning when it comes to acting roles.

"My family is my priority," Longoria said. "So, if I'm saying yes to something and it's taking time away from them, it's got to be something I'm really going to enjoy and people I really want to work with."

"I'm busy, and my career is very important to me, but I'm really fortunate that I met my match in that," she said of Bastón, her husband of almost 10 years. "He's totally supportive of my dreams and my goals and what I want to get done."

This past May, Longoria spoke withByrdieand shared that aftermaking her directorial debutwith her movieFlamin' Hotin 2023, she hopes to return to acting — but has found that becoming a mom to her son, whom she lovingly calls "Santi," has made her more picky about which jobs she wants to take.

"I definitely think more about what I want out in the world because my son is going to see it," Longoria told the outlet of her son.

"I think about whether he'd be proud of something or might be embarrassed. Even with old sexy photoshoots, I think, 'Oh god, he's going to see this one day.'"

Longoria often shares footage of her son on social media. Most recently, she gave fans a peek at her family's Halloween festivities as Santiago dressed up as a pirate via Instagram.

"The most fun weekend👻🎃," she captioned the adorablepost.
