Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl—and fans found themselves wondering: Who is "Father Figure" about?
On Friday, Oct. 3, The Life of a Showgirl dropped at midnight ET. Swift's track No. 4 spoke directly from the point of view of a man who acted like a mentor to her at first but seemingly turned on her. The good news is, she came out on top in the end.

Who Is Taylor Swift's 'Father Figure' About in 'Life of a Showgirl'?
Although Swift did not name anyone in "Father Figure," fans have speculated about who the song is about based on its lyrics.

The first verse begins from the mentor's POV as they help the mentee rise to the top: "When I found you, you were young, wayward, lost in the cold / Pulled up to you in the Jag', turned your rags into gold / The winding road leads to the chateau / 'You remind me of a younger me' / I saw potential."
In the chorus, the mentor declares they are the father figure and that they can "make deals with the devil because my d--k's bigger." They also claim their "love is pure profit."
Many on Reddit have pointed to Scott Borchetta, the CEO of Swift's former record label, Big Machine Records, who sold her masters to Scooter Braun as the person in "Father Figure."
One Redditor wondered, "This is about Scooter Braun right?" to which a second replied, "My guess is more Scott Borchetta."
Another Swiftie wrote on the Reddit thread, "I definitely think this is about Scott Borchetta and the 'family' she's talking about is her music masters."

A different Redditor shared a spoiler for Swift's appearance on The Graham Norton Show (You can catch the episode at 5:40 p.m. ET on Oct. 3 via BBC America on AMC+.)
"She says on Graham Norton this song is about a relationship with a male mentor that she saw as a father figure and their power struggle," they wrote. "It starts with Scott [Borchetta's] perspective then goes back to hers in the bridge when she has the upper hand."
Meanwhile, yet another Reddit user pointed out, "I feel like this is the song that I've thought about most over the last almost hour and a half… it's giving Is It Over Now? but to Scott B. 🫣."
It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Swift specifically says about "Father Figure" in the coming days as she appears on various talk shows to promote The Life of a Showgirl.
