- The actor shares what it would take to reprise the role in Disney's announced *Hocus Pocus 3*.

- Jelinek reacts to a cut scene from the *Hocus Pocus 2* script that would've featured Jay and Ice.

Tobias Jelinek is ready for Disney to light the Black Flame Candle for his potential *Hocus Pocus* return.

Though the actor — who portrayed Jay, one of the bullies who, alongside Ice (Larry Bagby), tormented Salem teen Max (Omri Katz) in the 1993 classic — didn't return for 2022's *Hocus Pocus 2*, Jelinek exclusively tells ** he's down to make more Sanderson Sisters magic in *Hocus Pocus 3*.

"I have not been asked to be part of the third. We'll see," Jelinek tells EW. He adds that he's "so curious where they're going to go after the second" before asking, "What are we going to do?" in a third movie.

Jelinek, who recently portrayed serial killer Richard Speck in the episode 8 finale of Netflix's new *Monster: The Ed Gein Story*, adds that he'd return for a third *Hocus Pocus* film with a few conditions in place.**

"If it was done right, I know for a fact Larry would make sure we both did it," Jelinek says. "I would want something with Omri and Vinessa [Shaw], and we also have to get Jason Marsden in there to be the voice of [the black cat] Binx. I'd flip over that opportunity, because we've all become really close friends."

Asked if he ever saw early script pages for *Hocus Pocus 2, *which writer Jen D'Angelo previously told EW featured scenes with Jay and Ice, Jelinek admits that's news to him.

"First of all, that would've been hilarious," he says, reacting to a summary of a scene that, according to D'Angelo, would've involved Jay and Ice. "But, no, never saw the drafts, they never contacted us. I think they kept that so hush-hush up until they pulled the trigger. I think it would've been hilarious if, after the credits, they just had us in the cages still singing 'Row, Row, Row Your Boat.' If I had my choice, that's what I would've gone for."

In a 2023 interview with EW, D'Angelo, who's also writing *Hocus Pocus 3*, revealed: "There was also a version [of *Hocus Pocus 2*] where Jay and Ice came back, because I have such a soft spot for them. I find them very emotional, also. Even though they're these cartoonish bullies, they're sweet. They get a real punishment at the end: they're locked in the cages for how long? They've been humbled. One of the jokes that naturally had to fall out that I was so sad to lose was that Ice and Jay were handing out candy, and they saw the Sanderson Sisters fly past. You think they're going to jump in and save the day, but they immediately run and hide because they're cowards."

Outside of Sanderson Sisters witches Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary (Kathy Najimy), and the zombified Billy Butcherson (Doug Jones), none of the original *Hocus Pocus* characters returned for the 2022 sequel in a significant capacity. That film followed three new Salem teens who inadvertently resurrect the witches for another round of Halloween hijinks.

A scene in the film did, however, feature a brief flashback that showed the likenesses of the original trio of children (Katz, Shaw, and Thora Birch — the latter of whom also had a cut role in the sequel, D'Angelo revealed to EW) from behind, as one character recalled witnessing the events of Halloween night in 1993.

Previously, in 2022, Katz, Shaw, and Marsden told EW they'd all return if Disney asked them to reprise their roles in a third production.

"It's such a fun story, and obviously having us reminisce about this makes it that much more fun and the fondness keeps growing," Shaw explained at the time, while Katz added that he'd be "100 percent down to do it" if the studio requested.

D'Angelo previously said in 2023 that, while a concrete story isn't in place just yet, she was exploring the idea of expanding the storyline of Hannah Waddingham's mother witch, who briefly appeared at the beginning of *Hocus Pocus 2*, after the sequel ended with a credits scene that teased the existence of another Black Flame Candle capable of resurrecting the Sanderson Sisters once again.

In July, Parker spoke about the development of *Hocus Pocus 3*, saying on *Watch What Happens Live* that there are "no more developments, other than we would like to do it" and that "we've been having some conversations" in the planning stage with Disney.
