<p>One person was killed and two others remain missing after a group of people were swept over a waterfall in central Oregon on July 19, authorities said.</p>
<p>A multi-agency search and rescue operation was underway after six people went over Dillon Falls, which are rapids on the Deschutes River near the small city of Bend, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. Authorities received a report of the incident at about 2:57 p.m. local time on July 19, the sheriff's office said in a statement.</p>
<p>The incident prompted an immediate response from the sheriff's office, its search and rescue team, and Bend Fire and Rescue. The Bend Police Department also provided drone support and AirLink Critical Care Transport, which provides emergency air medical transport, assisted with the aerial search, the sheriff's office said.</p>
<p>Three people were rescued from the river and transported by ambulance to a hospital in Bend, according to the sheriff's office. One person was confirmed dead at the scene.</p>
<p>Two people were still missing as of July 20. The sheriff's office said search and rescue crews "continued recovery efforts into the evening" on July 19 and resumed on the morning of July 20.</p>
<p>The sheriff's office did not provide further details on the incident, including the victims' identities and how the group got swept over Dillon Falls.</p>
<p>"The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office thanks all partner agencies for their swift and coordinated response," the agency said in the statement. "Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available."</p>

<p>What is Dillon Falls?</p>
<p>Dillon Falls is one of numerous waterfalls in central Oregon, many of which were formed by lava flows, according to the region's tourist information center. Dillon Falls, located within Deschutes National Forest, is a series of "quick-drop rapids" along the Deschutes River, the information center said on its website.</p>
<p>The information center describes the waterfall as a "15-foot drop that almost immediately turns into churning rapids in a quick, step ladder-like pattern."</p>
<p>According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the area around Dillon Falls is a popular location for visitors for hiking, water activities, picnicking, and viewing the waterfall. The city of Bend has a population of around 100,000 and is located on the Deschutes River, east of the Cascade Range.</p>
<p>Bend is about 132 miles southeast of Oregon's capital city of Salem.</p>
