President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter had the longest marriage in the history of U.S. presidents. The couple, who met when Jimmy was 3 years old and Rosalynn was a newborn, wed on July 7, 1946, and were married for 77 years until Rosalynn died on Nov. 19, 2023. The former first lady, who was diagnosed with dementia in May, had entered hospice care at the pair's Georgia residence two days earlier.
