Britain's Got Talent fans were left in a state of utter bewilderment over Simon Cowell's disappointment in singer Harrison – despite letting through a 'ridiculous' air guitar performer.

On last night's episode of the ITV programme, viewers were left in floods of tears when Harrison Pettman, a security guard from Gravesend, surprised his family by taking to the stage to perform a moving rendition of the song With You from the musical adaptation of Ghost.

After sitting in the audience, the 23-year-old (who was 22 at the time of his audition) pretended that he was heading to the toilet before walking out on stage, resulting in judge Bruno Tonioli giving him a standing ovation for his performance.

While Amanda Holden said that Harrison acted and sang the tune 'from his heart very genuinely', Simon told the contestant that he needed a 'lot of practise', leading to boos from the auditorium.

The media mogul stated that he was 'on the fence' about letting Harrison through – but ended up joining in the unanimous 'yes' votes from the four judges.

Viewers watching at home couldn't believe that Simon, 64, considered saying no to the singer, despite enthusiastically telling air guitar performer Sven Smith that his routine was 'so stupid, it was brilliant'.

Comparing Simon's two reactions, Atholl wrote on X: 'He's on the fence after that great performance but put through a guy who mimed playing a guitar?!'

Angela agreed, writing: 'How did Simon have to think about putting Harrison through, yet had no problems putting the burper and air guitar bloke through.'

X user @PrincessPKaur remarked: 'Why was Simon funny with Harrison? He was actually really good.'

Another user going by the handle @AAngels05 added: 'I'm screaming! Not Simon saying that Harrison needs more practice if he's wanting to be on the west end 😭😭😭.'

Britain's Got Talent fans were left seething when the judges allowed the air guitar performer Sven to sail through, describing his act as 'pointless'.

Sven, 27, was the first auditionee to take the stage on Saturday night, oozing with confidence as he promised the panel an act they had never seen before.

And, well, that's certainly what they got.

The intrigued judges encouraged Sven to begin his performance, at which point he pretended to lift an instrument out of a guitar case.

'There is no guitar!', exclaimed host Ant McPartlin as Wonderall by Oasis started playing.

Sven then mimed the song and 'played' along with his air guitar, then letting rip and 'smashing' his pretend instrument as the track descended into chaos.

Moments later, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody blasted out of the speakers, with Sven tearing off his clothing to expose a skin-baring ensemble.

Wearing a leather jacket and sequin trousers, he ran around the auditorium as the crowd went wild.

It didn't take long for Alesha Dixon to press her buzzer but, surprisingly, the rest of the panel were big fans, shaking Sven's hands and high-fiving him as he climbed down to the table.

With the audience cheering along to the Queen classic, Sven was on cloud nine, especially when the three judges who didn't buzz gave him a standing ovation – even Simon was in fits of giggles!

'It just really made me laugh,' commented the typically stoic talent show judge.

As the judges gathered to reveal their verdict, Simon, Amanda, and Bruno were firmly in favour of sending Sven through, while Alesha gave a firm 'no'.

Taking to X during the show, viewers expressed their frustration that the 'ridiculous' act was allowed to even audition in the first place.

'Not really a talent. Anyone can sit on guitar and run around stage', wrote user rebeccahollyxo_.

'You judges make no sense', raged MariaCliff70742.

'The fact this act passed multiple auditions before making it to the live show is ridiculous!', said MufcGibz.

User maxbiddle98 added: 'He didn't even do anything. He just ran about shaking his head and doing air guitar. That was completely pointless.'

Others branded the auditionee a 'muppet' while some expressed fears that he could win the whole thing.

Don't worry, it wasn't all nonsense on tonight's show, as there was a special Golden Buzzer moment.

A Japanese dance troupe who travelled to Britain's Got Talent due to their love of Simon has secured the music mogul's coveted buzzer, after dazzling him with an energetic routine choreographed to their own music.

After CyberAgent Legit took to the stage, Simon asked why they had travelled all the way for BGT, to which a member of the group said: 'We love Simon, that's why we're here.'

Dressed in matching red and silver metallic outfits, the group, aged between 20 to 28, impressed with their lively routine which featured synchronised moves and headspins.

Simon hailed the performance as 'fantastic' and described it as his 'favourite act of the day'.

The audience then cheered for him to give them his golden buzzer until he eventually agreed, which caused the group to jump up and down with joy.

Afterwards, a member of the group said: 'This is a dream come true for us.'

Simon added: 'This is the kind of act you want in a competition, it was really so good.

'And I could see how much time had gone into that, everyone in this theatre was rooting for you.'

Britain's Got Talent continues next Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX.
