DETROIT (AP) — Danny Janssen homered and Josh Jung drove in two runs as the Texas Rangers defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-4 on a rainy Friday night.

The Rangers (16-16) are back to .500 after losing three of their previous four game. Detroit (16-17) has lost five of its last seven.

Texas broke a 4-all tie against Burch Smith (0-1) in the eighth. With one out, Jake Burger and Alejandro Osuna hit back-to-back doubles to make it 5-4.

Jakob Junis pitched a scoreless eighth and Jacob Latz pitched the ninth for his third save. Former Tiger Tyler Alexander (1-0) picked up the win in relief.

Neither starter was involved in the decision. MacKenzie Gore allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings, while Detroit's Jack Flaherty gave up four runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Jung gave the Rangers a 1--0 lead in the first inning with a two-out RBI single.

Janssen led off the third with a homer over the Tigers bullpen in left, and Flaherty walked the next three hitters. Jung singled to left, bringing home Brandon Nimmo, and Joc Pederson followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

Flaherty then dropped a pop-up in front of the plate, but the infield-fly rule prevented any damage.

The Tigers made it 4-3 in the fourth. Detroit loaded the bases with two out on two hits and a walk. Wenceel Perez hit a two-run single to left, and Hao-Yu looped a single into right-center to knock in a third run.

Riley Greene tied the game in the fifth, beating out a double-play attempt to allow Kerry Carpenter to score from third.

Nimmo left the game in the bottom of the third with right hamstring tightness — the second straight game he has exited with the same issue.

May 1 (Reuters) - World Health Organization member states said on Friday they had extended talks on pathogen-sharing rules, ‌casting doubt on when a pandemic treaty adopted ‌last year can come into effect.

The talks are focused on a system intended ​to ensure countries quickly share pathogens that could cause pandemics while receiving fair access to vaccines, tests and treatments that result from their use.

Known as the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) annex, ‌it governs how countries ⁠share data and samples of pathogens that pose public health risks and seeks to ensure equitable ⁠access to vaccines and treatments.

Without agreement on PABS, the pandemic accord, which is intended to help the world respond more effectively ​to future ​pandemics in the wake of ​COVID-19, cannot come into ‌effect.

The World Health Assembly adopted the Pandemic Agreement in May 2025 to strengthen global prevention, preparedness and response to future pandemics.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said progress had been made but urged countries to keep working with urgency, saying the next ‌pandemic was "a matter of when, not ​if."

The outcome will be presented to ​the World Health Assembly ​later in May.

The assembly will be asked ‌to allow negotiations to continue, with ​any agreement to ​be submitted to the next assembly in May 2027 or earlier at a special session in 2026.

Member states ​agreed to set ‌aside this section when adopting the main treaty last ​year after negotiations proved contentious.

It wasannounced back in Februarythat former MMA champion Ronda Rousey was going to fight MMA pioneer Gina Carano on May 16 in Los Angeles at the Intuit Dome, streaming on Netflix.

The fight is the first-ever live MMA card on Netflixand will promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. Nate Diaz will also fight Mike Perry on the card, along with Francis Ngannou taking on Philipe Lins.

Oddsmakers have installed Rousey as a big favorite to win.

Rousey is currently a -650 favorite (implied probability of 86%) to win the fight at sportsbooks, with Carano a +450 underdog. Rousey, 39, last competed in 2016 in a loss against Amanda Nunes, while Carano, 43, last fought all the way back in 2009.

The fight will becontested as a featherweight bout at 145 poundsover five 5-minute rounds, using 4-ounce gloves.

As Yahoo Sports’ Ben Fowlkes noted, thisdream fight may be a decade late, but it will be a big deal — and plenty of fans will surely tune in. Both women were pioneers in the sport, both have had success out of the ring and both stayed in MMA long enough to suffer some big defeats.

A California mother has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after her 14-year-old childallegedly hit an 81-year-old veteranwhile doing wheelies on an e-motorcycle and the man later died, officials said Friday.

Tommi Jo Mejer, 50, was "repeatedly warned" of the risk involved with her son riding the e-motorcycle but allegedly allowed the teen to continue to illegally ride it, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Her son was allegedly riding the e-motorcycle on April 16 when he struck Ed Ashman while the 81-year-old substitute teacher was walking home from work in Lake Forest, according to prosecutors. The Surron e-motorcycle rider fled the scene, authorities said.

Hours after the collision, Mejer allegedly told authorities investigating the crash that neither she nor her son owned or had access to a Surron.

Mejer was arrested on April 21 and initially charged with felony counts of child endangerment and accessory after the fact to a crime.

Ashman, who was critically injured in the collision, died on Thursday, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, which has now upgraded Mejer's charges to include involuntary manslaughter.

Mejer has also been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing false information to a peace officer, both misdemeanors, and an infraction for permitting an unlicensed minor under the age of 18 to drive a motor vehicle.

"An American hero who survived flying combat missions in Vietnam could not survive walking across the street in Lake Forest because of a 14-year-old child who was allowed to ride an e-motorcycle that he should have never been riding," Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement. "This mother essentially handed her 14-year-old son a deadly weapon, and despite multiple warnings of the dangers, continued to let him illegally ride an e-motorcycle until he finally killed someone."

According to prosecutors, Mejer had contacted the Orange County Sheriff's Department nearly a year before the collision, in June 2025, to complain about someone posting photos of her son riding an e-motorcycle. During the interaction, Mejer "admitted that she purchased her son a Surron e-motorcycle and knew that he drove it recklessly," the district attorney's office said in a press release.

The deputies warned her that "she could face potential criminal charges if she continued to allow him to ride the e-motorcycle, which he could not legally ride," the office said. Riders of this class of e-motorcycle must be 16 years of age and possess a motorcycle license, according to the district attorney's office.

Mejer faces a maximum sentence of seven years and eight months in state prison if convicted on all counts, prosecutors said. She is scheduled to be arraigned on May 21. It is unclear if she has an attorney.

The district attorney's office said it is barred by state law from identifying the juvenile involved or discussing the investigation involving him.

Ashman served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and flew combat missions in Vietnam, the district attorney's office said.

"This is a tragedy for the family of Ed Ashman and for everyone who loved a man who committed himself to his country and his community, and it is a tragedy for our society that we have gotten to a point where parents are refusing to hold their children -- and themselves -- accountable for endangering the lives of other people," Spitzer said. "If parents aren't going to hold their children accountable, then I am going to hold parents accountable for hurting and killing innocent people while riding illegal motor vehicles."

For Rip and Beth, it’s getting a fresh start in a new state. Although, as the teaser trailer reveals, they haven’t exactly settled down in a calm and tranquil environment, with the footage showcasing plenty of fistfights, an exploding barn, and dead bodies.

At one point, Beth can be seen handling weapons as she warns Carter that danger may soon be at their doorstep.

“I need you ready for the hard parts ’cause they’re coming,” she says. Carter simply responds, “Sounds like fun.”

The clip also gives fans another look atEd Harris' andAnnette Bening’s characters, with the latter noting that Rio Paloma is “a bit more complicated” than Big Sky country.

Dutton Ranchpremieres its first two episodes on May 15 on Paramount+ and on the Paramount Network. The series will then switch to weekly installments for the rest of its nine-episode season.

Documentarian David Borenstein says his Mr. Nobody Against Putin co-director, Pavel Talankin, had his Oscar confiscated by TSA at New York's JFK airport, and it's now lost.

Documentarian David Borenstein took to hisInstagramon Thursday to share an urgent plea: "An Oscar is missing," he wrote. "[Lufthansa], we need your help with this."

Borenstein and his co-director, Pavel Talankin, took home a pair of Oscars mere weeks ago, after their filmMr. Nobody Against Putinwon Best Documentary Feature Film at the 98thAcademy Awards. But Talankin has barely had the chance to enjoy this massive honor, Borenstein explained, after a snafu at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport resulted in his little gold man being confiscated, and now going missing.

"Yesterday he arrived at JFK ready to fly home to Europe, carrying the Oscar as a carry-on. I snapped the first picture here of him on his way out," Borenstein wrote, over a shot of a smiling Talankin weighted down with luggage. If you look closely, his gleaming Oscar rests in a netted bag slung over his right shoulder.

"At the airport, a TSA agent stopped him and said the Oscar could be used as a weapon. She wouldn't let him carry it on board," Borenstein claimed, explaining that their attempts to reason with the Transportation Security Administration agent were unsuccessful, so they "put the Oscar in a box and sent it to the bottom of the plane."

Borenstein included pictures of the box in question, which "never arrived in Frankfurt," and the lost baggage slip Talankin was given there.

Borenstein then speculated: "Would Pavel have been treated the same way if he were a famous actor? Or a fluent English speaker?"

He implored TSA and the airline Lufthansa to aid them in the search, and threw a Hail Mary by ending his post with the request, "If anyone else has ever had to check an Oscar statuette, I'd love to know."

Talankin, a Russian schoolteacher, also stars inMr. Nobody Against Putin. The film begins as a simple chronicle of his class at a primary school in Karabash, a working class town in Western Russia, near the Kazakhstan border. But as the film unfolds, he also captures the transformation of the school from an impartial bastion of education to a propaganda-fueled disinformation site amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

The directing duo also won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary, and the Special Jury Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where the film premiered.
