Trump administration comments: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Tuesday the US will not relent until "the enemy is totally and decisively defeated," but added that President Donald Trump "gets to control the throttle" of the war and determine when the US offensive ends. On Monday, Trump made conflicting statements, saying in a wide-ranging news conference that US goals are "pretty well complete" and the war could end soon – right after telling House Republicans that "we haven't won enough."
The girls' school: The fallout continues over the strike on an Iranian girls' school that killed at least 168 children, according to Iranian state media. Trump suggested other countries could have struck the school, falsely claiming that Iran possesses Tomahawk missiles like the one believed to have been used in the attack. Earlier, footage emerged that appeared to show a US missile targeting an Iranian naval base near the school.
Oil disruption: Oil prices remain volatile, even after they fell Tuesday following Trump's comments the war would be over "very soon." Countries are bracing for impact, with an estimated 20% of world oil supply now disrupted. Pakistan has announced extreme austerity measures, South Korea is introducing its first fuel price cap in almost 30 years, and G7 ministers met to discuss potentially releasing strategic oil reserves. Meanwhile, Trump said he would be "waiving certain oil-related sanctions" without specifying which ones – and claimed that the war would ultimately lower oil prices in the long term.
Strait of Hormuz: Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most critical critical oil transit chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue. The news comes amid escalating threats over the Strait, with Trump trying to reassure operators of tankers that are refusing to travel through it. Earlier Tuesday, Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the military is "looking at a range of options" for escorting vessels through the crucial waterway, which has essentially been closed since the war began. The US has warned it will hit Iran harder if it tries to stop oil flowing through. Iran responded that its armed forces were "awaiting" US naval ships in the Strait and later Tuesday, the IRGC's naval commander warned that ships connected to countries he described as aggressors would not be allowed to transit, warning: "If you have any doubts, come closer and try." If such disruption continues, it could have "catastrophic consequences" for the global oil market, Aramco – the world's top oil exporter – warned.
Iranian women's soccer team: A sixth player and a staff member from the team sought asylum in Australia Tuesday, a source told CNN Sports, after five other players were granted humanitarian visas by the Australian government in response to earlier asylum requests. The rest of the team has is now believed to have left the country for Iran.
Israel strikes Iran: CNN's team in Tehran felt heavy aerial bombardment overnight which caused the walls of buildings to shake. One city resident said it was "impossible to even try to sleep" through the intense wave of Israeli bombing. Rescue teams raced to save people trapped in what Iranian state media said was a residential building. In Esfahan, historic landmarks were damaged. Tehran retaliated with strikes against Israel, according to the Israeli military.
Israel's assault on Lebanon: Israel issued further mass evacuation orders in southern Lebanon, after it said it struck a Hezbollah-controlled financial institution on Monday. Hezbollah said it launched rockets into northern Israel just after midnight on Tuesday.
Gulf nations: Neighboring countries on Tuesday reported fresh attacks with drones and missiles. One strike caused a fire at one of the region's largest oil refineries, situated in the United Arab Emirates. Drones were shot down in Iraqi Kurdistan after targeting an airport that hosts a US base and the UAE consulate, which sustained "material damage" from debris. Pro-Iranian Iraqi militias claimed responsibility. Last week, Iran's president had claimed Tehran would stop striking its neighbors unless any attacks on Iran originated from those countries.
Iran vows escalation: Iran will escalate its missile attacks and only launch missiles with warheads weighing more than a ton, an Iranian military commander said Monday. On Tuesday, Iran's intelligence authorities arrested 30 people, including a foreign national, accused of spying and working with foreign adversaries, the state news agency IRNA reported. Separately, a top Iranian official ruled out diplomacy for now, saying in a CNN interview that Tehran will continue attacking Gulf countries and that the war would only end through economic pain.
Growing death toll: In Iran, more than 1,200 civilians – many of them children – have been killed since the war began, according to state media. In Lebanon, at least 570 people have been killed since Israel began strikes on the country last week, the country's Disaster Risk Management Unit said Tuesday. Dozens more have been killed in other countries around the region, including seven US service members. Approximately 140 US troops have sustained injuries, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

TORONTO, March 10 (Reuters) - Canadian police boosted security around U.S. and Israeli diplomatic buildings on Tuesday after shots were fired at the U.S. consulate in Toronto, in what Prime Minister Mark Carney called a "reprehensible act."
Police say they were called to the consulate around 5:30 a.m. (0930 GMT), where they found spent shell casings and damage to the building. No one was injured.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chief Superintendent Chris Leather said security would be tightened at the U.S. and Israeli consulates in Toronto, Canada's most populous city, and at those countries' embassies in the capital Ottawa.
"These consulates deserve a heightened amount of vigilance and security at this time in the hopes that we can bring the temperature down," he told a press conference, saying the shooting would be probed as a national security incident.
Toronto Police Deputy Chief Frank Barredo said witness evidence indicates that two men exited a white SUV outside the consulate around 4:30 a.m., fired shots from a handgun at the front of the building and drove away.
"(This was) a reprehensible act of violence and attempt at intimidation," Carney said in a post on X, saying police would do all they could "to ensure the perpetrators of these violent acts are identified and brought to the full weight of justice."

SYNAGOGUE SHOOTINGS
The consulate shooting follows three separate incidents last week in which gunshots were fired at synagogues in the Toronto area. No one was injured in those shootings.
Barredo said it was too early to draw a connection between the consulate shooting and those at the synagogues.
The U.S. State Department said in a statement that it was aware of the incident and was closely monitoring the situation in coordination with local law enforcement.
Separately, on Sunday, an improvised device exploded in Norway at the U.S. embassy in Oslo and police were still searching for a suspect. A possible link to the Iran war was among the lines of inquiry.
In New York City, two men have been charged with terrorism after throwing a homemade bomb at anti-Islam protesters over the weekend.

"Let's go! Making another run at it, baby, and the Chiefs are making moves, Pat," Kelce told McAfee.
Kelce, who is also busy planning his upcoming wedding toTaylor Swift, said he needed to "take a step back" before deciding to return and credited Swift, 36, for motivating him.
"We share the same love for what we do, and we've had this...desire," said Kelce. "I'm still in love with this game," he added.
"I still love going to work, putting on the pads, grinding it out and just playing the game, you know, and I think my best opportunity was playing for the Chiefs yet again and running this thing back with Pat Mahomes and Coach Reid. And got my guy Eric Bieniemy, Coach Bieniemy back, and there's a lot of pieces in Kansas City that I just I absolutely love and I can't wait to get back in the building with," said Kelce.
The tight end said it's "amazing to see" his fiancée "keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies...and on top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does."
"Yeah, of course that's motivating," he added of Swift. "That's motivating for anyone to see, let alone my fiancée, and knowing that I'm going through something where I'm trying to figure out what exactly the future holds for me, something like that definitely motivates me to say, 'You know what, I'm not done either.'"

Of the time he spent thinking about whether or not to return, Kelce said, "It was pretty short and brief, and the Chiefs knew where I was the entire time on it."
Kelce also referenced his fiancée's famous "Easter eggs" during the appearance and joked that he started "just placing those things all over the planet and everybody starts to catch on," ever since meeting Swift. He reportedly made the decision before the beginning of the free agency period and informed the Chiefs organization of his intention to return on Monday, according to ESPN.
Sources also toldNFL Network's Ian Rapoportthat Kelce, whose contract with the Chiefs wasset to expire on Wednesday, March 11, turned down more financially lucrative offers from other NFL teams so he could stay with the Chiefs, where he's played the entirety of his career.

HOUSTON (AP) — Randy Arozarena had vulgar words for Seattle teammate Cal Raleigh after he was left hanging at theWorld Baseball Classic.
Arozarena, a two-time All-Star outfielder, seemingly lashed out at Raleigh after the Team USA catcher did not accept a handshake before an at-bat in the United States' 5-3 win over Mexico.
Speaking to Mexican journalist Luis Gilbert in Spanish,Arozarena said Raleigh"has to thank God that he has nice parents, well educated," and said he recently hugged them during a friendly greeting at the team hotel.
He then used profane Cuban and Mexican slang to insult Raleigh before pivoting to English and saying Raleigh could shove his "good to see you" in his rear. Arozarena was born in Cuba but defected to Mexico to pursue an MLB career.
Arozarena had reached down to greet Raleigh in his catcher's squat at home plate, and Raleigh declined to offer his hand back. Raleigh appeared to say something to Arozarena during the exchange at the plate that could have set off the Mexican star.

While speaking to plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow on herMisSpellingpodcaston Monday, March 9, the actress, 52, confessed that seeing people speculate about the cosmetic procedures she's had throughout the years has "hurt" her feelings.
Spelling recalled a tabloid publication spreading rumors that she had gotten "cheek implants" and a "new chin" around the time she started starring inBeverly Hills, 90210.
"They were like 'she's had all this plastic surgery,' so they did something like that to a 17-year-old," said Spelling. "I had gotten my nose done at the time. That was it."
The actress said the assumptions made about her in the article have stayed on her mind for years.
Spelling — who sharesfive children, Liam, 18, Stella, 17, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and Beau, 8, with ex-husbandDean McDermott— described the rise of critiquing celebrities' looks on social media as "horrific."

As the search forNancy Guthriecontinues into its sixth week, a neighbor of the 84-year-old mother has shared more details abouta "strange guy" she spottedin the neighborhood three weeks before Nancy's presumed abduction.
Appearing on the Monday (March 9) episode ofBrian Entin Investigatespodcast, Aldine Meister, who has lived in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, for almost 30 years, said she was "freaked out" by the sighting.
Meister showed Entin into her bathroom, pointing out the window from which she noticed the suspicious individual. "I saw him out there. So I couldn't make out his face, although his hat was way down. He was walking down the road, I saw him, and I was like, 'Ohh that guy doesn't fit,'" she said, per theIrish Star.
She continued, "He was kind of hunched over, not in walking or hiking gear. He was dressed in street clothing. So I thought that was weird because that's not normal."
Meister said the person "wasn't going terribly quickly like a normal person who's getting exercise," adding, "He was kind of going slowly, and when he walked by this street, he really took a long look at it."

Nancy, the mother ofToday'sSavannah Guthrie, has beenmissing since January 31,when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Since then, investigators have releaseddoorbell camera footageof a masked suspect andshared a descriptionof the potential abductor. No suspects have been named.
Meister told Entin she wasn't home the night Nancy was taken. "I arrived home the next morning, and then when we all found out she was missing, we all went out looking for her," she shared, noting that they assumed she'd taken a fall somewhere and that they'd soon find her.
"I was shocked, my elderly mother lives a street away, so I was like 'Oh my gosh, this is terrifying for Nancy,'" she added. "We all went out on foot and driving around. I asked the sheriff a few questions, and he was like 'Yep, we already did that.'"
Meister revealed that at the time, she didn't mention the "strange guy" to anyone other than her husband and mother. However, since Nancy's disappearance, she has reported her sighting to the authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
