But Hibbert's most recognized performance was one that never revealed his face. In Quentin Tarantino's 1994 masterpiecePulp Fiction, boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) is running from feared crime boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames), when he seeks shelter in a pawn shop. But the owner, Maynard (Duane Whitaker), holds the two men at gunpoint and ties them up in his basement, where Maynard and his pal Zed (Peter Greene) are keeping "The Gimp," a man held in a small box and dressed in leather bondage, including a mask that doesn't allow him to speak. The Gimp is tied up and left to watch over Butch as Maynard and Zed take Marsellus to the other room to sexually assault him, but Butch manages to get free and punch the Gimp, who unsuccessfully tries to yell to get his captors' attention.

Not much information was ever given about the character and how he ended up in that situation, until Tarantino peeled back a curtain in 2020. "It doesn't quite play this way in the movie, but, in my mind when I wrote it, the Gimp's dead,"he revealed to Empire. "Butch knocked him out and then, when he passed out, he hung himself. In terms of backstory, he was a hitchhiker or somebody that they picked up seven years ago, and they trained him so he's the perfect victim."

For his part, Hibbert embraced the bonkers role and the legacy that came with it — even if it didn't prove to be life-changing. "I never made a big deal of it,"he told Vulturein 2014. "I wish I had, but I've never figured out a way to monetize it or make it a thing. I've never sent out Christmas cards with the Gimp or anything. And whatever else I've done before or will do in show business, I don't think I'll ever have a cooler credit than that. I love the fact that I did that."

In reversal, Florida Bar says it is not investigating Trump loyalist Lindsey Halligan

The Florida Bar said Friday it is not investigating former Justice Department attorneyLindsey Halligan, walking back an earlier statement saying aprobe was underway.

In early February, a Florida Bar official responded to a request for a probe into the Trump loyalist over her time in the administration by writing, "We already have an investigation pending."

A day after NBC News and other outlets reported on the letter Thursday, the Florida Bar said that while there is a "monitoring file," there is no investigation into Halligan.

"In response to an inquiry from a complainant, The Florida Bar wrote a letter to the complainant erroneously stating that there is a pending Bar investigation of member Lindsey Halligan," a Florida Bar spokeswoman said in a statement Friday. "There is no such pending Bar investigation of Lindsay Halligan."

The bar said it received a complaint against Halligan and then followed what it called standard practice by "monitoring the ongoing legal proceedings underlying the complaint."

The complaint to the Florida Bar came from the Campaign for Accountability, a nonprofit watchdog group. The group said that by falsely claiming to be a U.S. attorney, Halligan committed a variety of ethical violations.

Halligan, who had no prosecutorial experience before leadingunsuccessful casesagainst former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, left her roleas interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in January after a judge said shewas "masquerading" as the district's top federal prosecutor.

The Campaign for Accountabilityfiled complaintswith both the Florida and the Virginia bars in November, and itfollowed upwith the Florida Bar last month.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who previously served as Florida's attorney general, criticized the earlier news reports of an investigation.

"The Florida Bar 'investigation' of Lindsey Halligan is totally fake news," she said Fridayin a post on X. "Lindsey not only did nothing wrong — she did a great job!"

Asked for comment on the Florida Bar's reversal, Halligan responded to NBC News Friday by writing, "Where's my apology?"

She also sent a screenshot of aTrump post on Truth Socialwhere he reposted Bondi's defense of Halligan.

Big Ten wrestling tournament bracket, results, standings, highlights from Day 1

Some of the best wrestlers throughout the NCAA will convene at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pennsylvania this weekend for theBig Ten wrestling tournament.

USA TODAY Sports

This year, the Big Ten has introduced a new preliminary seeding system that ranks 14 starters in all 10 weight classes. Penn State, which has won the last three Big Ten wrestling tournament championships, leads all schools with six No. 1 seeds, though four different schools feature a No. 1 seed.

REQUIRED READING:Why Penn State wrestling's Cael Sanderson faults Big Ten seeding

Penn State's Luke Lilledahl (125 pounds), Marcus Blaze (133), Shayne Van Ness (149), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Rocco Welsh (184) and Josh Barr (197) all enter as No. 1 seeds in their respective classes. Elsewhere, Nebraska's Antrell Taylor (157) and Christopher Minto (174) are No. 1 seeds, while Ohio State's Jesse Mendez (141) and Michigan's Taye Ghadiali (285) round out top seeds.

The seeding system isnot without its criticisms, however, as undefeated 174-pounder Levi Haines of Penn State is the No. 2 wrestler behind Nebraska's Minto, whom he defeated in February. Elsewhere, No. 1-ranked senior Lucas Byrd of Illinois, the defending national champ, is the No. 2 seed behind Blaze, an undefeated freshman.

'The Bride!' spoilers – Maggie Gyllenhaal unpacks 'hopeful ending'

Spoiler alert! We're discussing important plot points and the ending of"The Bride!"(in theaters now), so beware if you haven't seen it yet.

USA TODAY

Frankenstein's monster and his Bride live fast and die hard in"The Bride!"Or in their case, die again. Yet director Maggie Gyllenhaal still manages to give them a hopeful ending.

In the filmmaker's twisted 1930s twist on "The Bride of Frankenstein," Frank (Christian Bale) asks Chicago scientist Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to make him a mate and they reanimate the corpse of a young dead woman named Ida (Jessie Buckley) who becomes the Bride. Frank kills a couple of dudes who mess with his love interest and they go on the run.

Frank (Christian Bale) and the Bride (Jessie Buckley) go on a wild, crime-filled journey of self-discovery in Maggie Gyllenhaal's "The Bride!"

Crime and murder highlight their road trip, with the cops in pursuit, but their travails also spawn a legion of female followers who paint their faces with black splotches to match the Bride and rise up against the men holding them down.

Let's dig into the film's electric finale and Gyllenhaal's very personal dedication.

What happens in the ending of 'The Bride'?

Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening, with Christian Bale) brings the Bride to life but also has a big role to play in the ending of "The Bride!"

The authorities – including detective Jake Wiles (Peter Sarsgaard) and his assistant Myrna Mallow (Penelope Cruz) – track down the fugitive couple to a drive-in movie theater and the cops shoot Frank. An upset Bride drives him to Euphronious' lab to save his life, the police follow and the Bride is killed as well, left slumped atop Frank.

Myrna, who's sympathetic to the Bride's plight, and the other officers leave Euphronious' place. Outside, Myrna looks up and sees electricity in the windows of the lab: The scientist has decided to try and spark life in Frank and the Bride again. The final shot is a close-up on their hands, unmoving at first and then slowly clasping one another.

Euphronious is "not supposed to bring people back to life," Gyllenhaal says. "That's bad. That's naughty. And she's inspired by the Bride and the love she sees between them to go against the grain."

As for the happy-ish ending, "I would say, why not go hopeful?" Gyllenhaal adds. "Like, let's go. It's so much braver. It's so much scarier. It's so much more vulnerable to go hopeful. Maybe that's just me."

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jake Gyllenhaal are one of Hollywood's most dynamic sibling duos in recent memory. Bale feels that Frank and the Bride's love is "really vibrant and volatile" and they're "sort of essential for each other" in the film. She's "awakening to this brilliance and this life energy and this electricity that she has within her. He's trying to reconcile with all of the wrongs that he's assumed about how to live life, and this hundred years of guilt that has really led him nowhere. And the possibility of no matter what you've done in the past, you can have a future as well.

"At the end, he says, 'Will you marry me?' And she's like, 'You know, that's not it.' And he understands what she means. It's more of a reinvention each and every day, being totally alive, no matter where that takes you."

Does 'The Bride' have a post-credits scene?

Maggie Gyllenhaal (left) attends the world premiere of "The Bride!" with husband Peter Sarsgaard and daughter Ramona Sarsgaard.

No, but if you wait till the movie ends, there is something pretty cool for fans of Gyllenhaal. In the credits, she thanks her parents and brother Jake (who plays movie idol Ronnie Reed), and adds the dedication "For my daughters."

Gyllenhaal thinks Ramona, 19, and Gloria, who turns 14 next month, both informed the film's theme of "not fitting in your box" and being true to yourself.

"Without even knowing it, I was trying to get them in the box because, oh, guys, it'll just be easier if you can fit in," the director says. "And they both taught me that's really actually a total dead end. They just were never going to fit in their boxes."

Ramona has already seen "The Bride!" "a few times," Gyllenhaal says. "She's my biggest fan." And Gloria frequently would visit the editing room during post-production. "She used to come hang out on our couch and watch pieces of the movie, but I didn't let her watch the whole thing. But I'm going to let her. And they both want to paint their faces (like the Bride)."

7 Details That “Love Story ”Got Wrong About John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's Romance (Exclusive)

7 Details That

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette revisits the real-life couple's relationship before their tragic deaths

NEED TO KNOW

  • The show makes it clear that while it's inspired by their romance, it's also "dramatized or fictionalized for storytelling purposes"

  • Actress Daryl Hannah, who dated JFK Jr. and is portrayed in the show, called the portrayal of her "untrue"

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessettehas introduced a whole new group of fans to theiconic '90s couple.

John F. Kennedy Jr.(Paul Anthony Kelly) andCarolyn Bessette's (Sarah Pidgeon) relationship is front and center in theRyan MurphyFX limited series, which is inspired by the events of the political heir andformer Calvin Klein employee'spassionate, tumultuous romance.

Some things were transposed from reality to screen: The political heirreallywas responsible for the death ofDaryl Hannah's (Dree Hemingway) dog amid theirsplit, per PEOPLE editor-at-largeLiz McNeiland JFK's former assistant RoseMarie Terenzio's 2024 book,JFK Jr.: An Intimate Oral Biography.

But as the showrunner makes clear in the beginning of each episode, certain aspects of the show, including people and events, were "dramatized or fictionalized for storytelling purposes."

Below, here are seven detailsLove Story: JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessettefabricated.

It's not confirmed that JFK Jr. and Bessette met at a fundraiser

Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly in FX's 'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette'Credit: Eric Liebowitz/FX

While in the show, JFK Jr. and Bessette first cross paths after being introduced by Calvin Klein (Alessandro Nivola) at a 1992 fundraiser, there are varying accounts of how they initially met in real-life.

InElizabeth Beller's biography,Once Upon A Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the author wrote that JFK Jr. met Bessette while he was getting fitted for a suit at Calvin Klein.

"Calvin — along with his wife,Kelly Klein, and ... assistant MJ Bettenhausen — decided it should be [Carolyn], the most effervescent person on the sales floor, who would show John the selection of clothing," Beller wrote. "Unsurprisingly, John came out of the meeting smitten, with a few men's suits and Carolyn's phone number. He called within days."

However,Love Storyexecutive producer Brad Simpson toldUSA Todayin February 2026 that there are different versions of the series of events, but "the most common narrative [of] how they met was at this fundraiser ... so we decided that would be their first meeting."

Bessette didn't necessarily discover Kate Moss

Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette in FX's 'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette'Credit: FX

In the first episode of the limited series, Bessette has a big role inKate Moss' modeling break, as sheadvocates for her as the best fitfor the Calvin Klein "Obsession" underwear campaign.

Though this did happen in real life, the scene suggests Bessette "discovered" the British supermodel, but she had actually already begun hermodeling careerat the time.

Moss first walked down the runway in 1992 at the Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan, though she did gain more recognition following the Calvin Klein campaign. (Meanwhile, she and Bessette lived in the same West Village apartment building around that time.)

Daryl Hannah said the portrayal of her is "untrue"

Dree Hemingway as Daryl Hannah in 'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette'Credit: Eric Liebowitz/FX

The first few episodes of the series chronicle JFK Jr.'s on-again, off-again romance with actress Hannah. However, she wrote in an essay forThe New York Timesthat the portrayal of her is "not even a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct or my relationship with John."

"The actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue," the actress wrote in the scathing essay, which went on to refute several scenes from the series.

"I have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fueled parties," she wrote. "I have never pressured anyone into marriage. I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone's private memorial."

Hannah added, "I have never planted any story in the press. I never compared Jacqueline Onassis' death to a dog's. It's appalling to me that I even have to defend myself against a television show. These are not creative embellishments of personality. They are assertions about conduct — and they are false."

JFK Jr. didn't propose to Bessette with his mother's ring

Paul Anthony Kelly and Naomi Watts in 'Love Story: JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette'Credit: Eric Liebowitz/FX

When JFK Jr. proposes to Bessette in episode 5, he uses his late mother's (Naomi Watts)ring. But in real life, JFK Jr. did not use one ofJackie Kennedy'sringsto propose.

Instead, he gave her a bespoke ring that was designed by his mom's longtime companion, diamond baronMaurice Tempelsman, and inspired by his late mother's "swimming ring."

According toCarole Radziwill's 2007 book,What Remains, JFK Jr. gave Jackie's ring to Bessette as a gift later, which was also echoed in McNeil and Terenzio's book.

"John gave Carolyn two rings. There was his mom's 'swimming ring' - that was Jackie's name for the ring she wore when she didn't wear her wedding ring-designed by Jean Schlumberger," Terenzio said in the book. "Bunny Mellon (Jackie's close friend) had it and had given it to John. Jackie's swimming ring was emeralds and sapphires. Carolyn's engagement ring from Maurice was in the same style with diamond and sapphires around a band."

Their N.Y.C. park fight wasn't about their engagement

Paul Anthony Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr. and Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette in 'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette'Credit: Eric Liebowitz/FX

Episode 5 dives into JFK Jr. and Bessette's infamous fight in New York City's Battery Park. While this dramatic and public incident did happen in real life, itsreasoning (and location!) were different.

According to McNeil and Terenzio's book, the couple got into a fight while walking their dog in Washington Square Park in February 1996. After the confrontation was captured by a nearby photographer and videographer, the incident was later published in theNew York Daily News.

While it's sparked byBessette resisting JFK Jr.'s proposal in the show, the real-life fight "stemmed from Carolyn's ongoing complaint that John let people walk all over him," JFK Jr.'s friend Steven M. Gillon wrote in his 2019 biographyAmerica's Reluctant Prince.

Terenzio also noted that in her and McNeil's book, saying that the fight was centered around "him being taken advantage of by his friends" after an incident at a friend's wedding.

Berman didn't push for JFK Jr. to put his wedding photos inGeorge

As JFK Jr. prepares for his wedding amid workplace tensions over revenue streams atGeorge, his co-founder, Michael J. Berman, encourages him to publish his wedding photos in the magazine.

Terenzio tells PEOPLE that Berman "would never suggest" something like that in real life.

JFK Jr. and Bessette didn't sleep on the beach the night before their wedding

Paul Anthony Kelly as John F. Kennedy Jr. and Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette in 'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette'Credit: FX

Love Story's wedding episode highlights the couple's 1996 nuptials in Georgia, but it adds some fictionalized elements to the big day — including them sleeping on the beach the night before.

However, a source tells PEOPLE that they slept at Cumberland Island's Greyfield Inn in separate bedrooms because he "didn't want to see her the night before the wedding" and was "being traditional."
