If only one of the precogs could have warned Colin Farrell that going out for his birthday would result in one of his crappiest times shooting a movie ever.**

While visiting *The Late Show* on Tuesday, the actor revealed that he partied so hard one night that he needed 46 takes to nail one of his scenes in *Minority Report* with his costar Tom Cruise the next day. **

"I also had one of the worst days I've ever had on a film set [on *Minority Report*]," Farrell admitted to host Stephen Colbert. "It was my birthday on May 31, and we were shooting, and I begged production — who did I think I was? — of a $120 million film if they [could] not have me working on my birthday."

He quickly learned, however, that not even a birthday can stop production. **

"So of course my pickup was 6 a.m. on May 31, and I got up to all sorts of nonsense the night before," he said. "And I remember getting into bed, and as soon as I turned off the light the phone rang and it was the driver, [who] said, 'It's 10 past 6.' And I went, 'Oh, s---.'"

Farrell explained that he arrived on set in such a state that it caught the attention of the movie's second assistant director, David H. Venghaus Jr. **

"I got out of the car and he went, 'You can't go to the set like this,'" he recalled. "And I went, 'Just get me six Pacifico Cervezas and a packet of 20 [Marlboro] Red."**

Turning to the audience, Farrell quickly cautioned, "Now, listen, it's not cool because two years later I went to rehab, right? But it worked in the moment. All the holy people that we look to on how to live a life would say the present is all that counts."

So then Farrell "had a couple of beers" and went to set. "It was terrible," he lamented. "I will never forget the line I had that I couldn't get out. It was, 'I'm sure you've all grasped the fundamental paradox of pre-crime methodology.' That was the line that started the scene."

It got so bad, Farrell said, that the crew began to try to help him out. "I remember one of them coming up and saying, 'Do you want to go out and take a breath of fresh air?'" he said. "And I remember thinking, 'If I go out and take a breath of fresh air, then I'll be under more pressure when I come back in to be better.' And I went, 'No, we'll just go through it.'"

The plan did not work. "We did 46 takes," Farrell deadpanned. "Tom wasn't very happy with me. Tom, who I love, was not very happy!"

To prove his point, Colbert brought out a snapshot from the film that featured Cruise's character, John Anderton, holding a gun to Farrell's Department of Justice agent Danny Witwer's throat. "No, this is what he did. He pulled a gun on you," the host joked. "That's him at the end of the take right there!"

Released in 2002, and adapted from Philip K. Dick's 1956 novella of the same name, *Minority Report *starred Cruise as the head of D.C.'s pre-crime division, which arrests individuals before they can commit any offenses using premonitions received by clairvoyants, a.k.a precogs. However, John finds the tables turning on him when he is accused of a future crime, forcing him to go on the run.

Watch Farrell discuss his terrible, no good, very bad day on set above.

Baby boomers may just be the last generation to have had a smooth and financially secure retirement. For their children, most of whom are Generation X, retirement will not be as easy as it was for their parents.

Cost of living, healthcare and housing prices are rising faster than wages — eroding savings and increasing reliance on credit, according to Natalia Brown, chief consumer affairs and creditor relations officer at National Debt Relief (NDR). Many Gen Xers are finding they need to work longer, delay retirement or tap into their limited savings just to stay afloat.

Here are some of the other reasons why Gen X can't retire like boomers, and what they can do about it.

Trending Now: Suze Orman's Secret to a Wealthy Retirement--Have You Made This Money Move?

Gen Xers Have Less Saved

Many Gen Xers are entering their 50s and early 60s with both debt and significant anxiety about their finances, Brown said, citing an NDR survey which found that "most Gen Xers in debt lack confidence in their ability to retire as planned and have deep concern that Social Security alone won't be enough to sustain them."

Trending Now: 3 Ways AI Is Quietly Transforming Retirement Planning — and What It Means for Your Money

Gen Xers Survived More Economic Disruptions

Additionally, "Gen Xers have been through a lot" at the economic level, according to Jay Zigmont, CFP, founder of Childfree Trust.

"Job disruptions disrupt retirement savings. Crashes add to the uncertainty and may result in Gen Xers having less money saved and taking less risk when investing," he said.

Indeed, unlike boomers, Gen Xers have faced major economic disruptions during their critical wealth-building years, such as the dot-com crash, the 2008 housing crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Add to this "stagnant wages and rising costs," Brown said it's no surprise that many Gen Xers now face financial strain.

These economic hardships have also left many Gen Xers feeling financially cautious, if not discouraged. However, she said that financial confidence can be rebuilt "with a plan, support and the belief that it's not too late."

Gen Xers Are a Sandwich Generation

Gen Xers are also a key "sandwich generation" with many of them financially supporting both their children and their aging parents, sometimes while still managing their own debt. "This juggling act makes it extremely hard to prioritize retirement savings," Brown said. She pointed out that "these overlapping responsibilities are draining both time and money, which is why so many Gen Xers feel behind."

Zigmont pointed out that caring for parents is so common that "we now include it as a core step in our clients' financial plans."

Boomers Had Pensions; Most Gen Xers Don't

Boomers reaped the benefits of "the original design for retirement planning," Zigmont pointed out, which focused on four parts: pension, retirement savings, Social Security and building equity in one's primary residence.

Unfortunately, "pensions are now rare, except for people working in public service," he said. In fact, he explained, 401(k) plans were first introduced with the intent to help grow retirement savings, but most employers saw them as a cheaper option than a pension, so they stopped offering pensions.

"Gen Xers are the first generation to retire without pensions. It is often called the '401(k) experiment' as we don't know if it will work or if people truly saved enough," Zigmont said. What is known is that Social Security is not enough to retire on alone, making 401(k) plans more crucial than ever.

Many Gen Xers Live Paycheck to Paycheck

Simply put, the higher cost of living is impacting everybody, but Gen Xers are just closer to retirement than their younger peers, so it comes with added stress. Zigmont also pointed to rising housing costs and overall inflation.

"If you are living paycheck to paycheck, you don't have the money to retire at all," he said.

Debt Is Holding Gen X Back

Zigmont said that there's a necessary step for Gen Xers who feel behind on retirement to be able to route more money to that end: Get out of debt first.

"Many Gen Xers will have to delay retirement to make ends meet," he said.

What Gen Xers Can Do To Catch Up

Despite this grim outlook, it's never too late to take meaningful action.

"Gen Xers can start by maximizing catch-up contributions to their 401(k) or IRA, especially since those over 50 are eligible to contribute more," Brown said, urging anyone alarmed about their retirement to start with a plan, get support and focus on what you can control.

While delaying retirement may not be ideal, even a few extra working years can make a significant difference — not just in savings, but in reducing the number of retirement years that need to be funded as well, she pointed out.

Zigmont recommended the Catching Up to FI podcast for those who feel behind to realize they're in a very common situation.

"There are millions of people just like you that are trying to catch up. It is not too late," he said.

Well, here we are — heading to World Series Game 7! The Halloween vibes definitely got to the Blue Jays tonight in Game 6, as the Dodgers took it 3–1. So, while that score might suggest a quiet night at the plate, the game was anything but dull, packed with drama and a true Hollywood-style ending. We even saw a "lodged ball" situation because why not, right?, but the real spotlight was on Addison Barger.

Notably, he did manage to crank a double in the ninth, yet things quickly turned sour. A brutal baserunning mistake led to a double play that ended the Jays' hopes. And just like that, Barger went from hero to villain in the eyes of Toronto fans.

"Addison Barger with a terrible read off the bat. You don't need to advance from second there even if it drops. Brutal mistake." A Blue Jays loyalist's post defines how the fans are feeling about Barger.

Well, the Blue Jays had everyone on edge in the bottom of the ninth, and why not? Runners on second and third, just one out, and Andres Gimenez up as the potential hero. You were not alone if you expected a recarnation of Joe Carter's walk-off home run again this time!

However, he lifted a liner that looked like it might drop in, but Kike Hernandez made a sharp read in left, snagged it cleanly, and fired a perfect throw back to second. Addison Barger, caught too far off the bag, couldn't scramble back in time — and just like that, the game ended on a heartbreaking double play. That crushing moment capped off what's been a back-and-forth World Series, with the Blue Jays and Dodgers trading blows through six tense games.

So you can imagine how Jays fans felt — two runners in scoring position, one out, and a single could've changed everything. Instead, it turned into a gut-punch of an ending, a moment many are calling a debacle, especially since it came right after Barger's clutch double in the same inning.

Blue Jays fans are tearing into Barger's base-running blunder

So what made Barger think to complete 3rd base just as Gimenez hit a flyball? Fans wonder. "What the HELL was Addison Barger doing?!?! That's a Little League baserunning mistake. If the Blue Jays lose tomorrow night…," one fan said. Just when you are on second base and the centerfielder is coming in to catch a flyball, why dare to get into third base? No need, and by the time Barger realized that, it was too late. "Just retire Kike Hernandez's number already. There's no reason for Addison Barger to be doubled up like this. Wow," added another.

Then there's Hernandez's laser throw that didn't miss the second base. So, while these blunders are not expected from someone like Barger, last-inning pressure and trailing 1-3 might have gotten over his head. Unfortunately, the error came at the worst time possible for the Jays. "Ernie Clement swinging first pitch and probably the worst read of a fly ball by Addison Barger is so insane. I can't believe those 2 at-bats," another user chirps in.

But it's not only Barger's blunders that cost the game; even luck seems not to be on his side tonight. "Addison Barger's automatic double in the 9th would have been a home run in 1/30 MLB ballparks. You guessed it… Wrigley Field," one user said. "Look, what happened was unfortunate, but you're not a real fan if you blame Addison Barger for that loss. Let's get it tomorrow!" Another added.

Barger's long hit had the distance to put him on second, maybe even third, and completely flip the momentum. But as luck would have it, it got lodged at the base of the centerfield wall. So, what could've been a game-changing hit turned into just a ground-rule double, stranding the Blue Jays in a crucial moment.

In the end, it was solid contact, but just a few feet short of being a homer… The kind of tough break that makes baseball feel downright cruel sometimes.

On *RuPaul's Drag Race* season 14, intimacy is defined by two things: finding Tic Tacs in crevices no sugared good should creep, and sharing your secret porn stash with your sisters.

As episode 2 challenge winner Angeria Paris VanMicheals tells EW in the latest installment of our *Quick Drag *recaps (airing Fridays at 10:05 ET / 7:05 PT on our Twitter Spaces), she experienced both within the first few hours of filming the Emmy-winning competition series' latest season. After becoming "very close" with Lady Camden, a U.K.-born starlet whose accent immediately charmed Angeria, the pair discovered a mutual fascination with more than just each other's drag styles: their taste in adult films, which led to "true love at first porn," according to Angeria.

Drag Race

Angeria Paris VanMicheals wrote her Drag Race talent show song in one day. World of Wonder/VH1

"It was our first break from filming, she mentioned that she had porn," Angeria explains in the podcast episode below. "The first thought in my head was, 'Oh my god, I left all my porn at home!' Flying to California, I didn't want TSA clocking my DVDs and stuff!"

She says that, after filming the episode, she mustered the courage to ask Lady Camden if the goods were transferrable between new* Drag Race* siblings.

"I was like, 'Lady Camden, can I borrow your porn?' and she was like, 'Yeah bitch, you can!' I watched it that day!" she explains.

She also got up close and personal at the day's mini challenge, which saw her posing for a fashion photo in a giant bowl of orange Tic Tacs: "My advice, if you are in a bowl of Tic Tacs, is to maybe wear some kind of suit over your outfit, because when you take it off, you're going to have a lot of Tic Tacs falling out of everywhere. I got back to the hotel, and Tic Tacs were still falling out of me."

Angeria also reveals that she wrote her challenge-winning song over the course of a single day, and chalked the Hollywood blockbuster-level theatrics (she exited the stage for a split-second only to return through heavy smoke from a fog machine) up to luck and an "executive decision" she made on set.

"We rehearsed it, and I said, 'Do we have fog? Can I have some fog, some smoke or something?'" Angeria recalls, noting that the production team allowed her to use a fog machine that was already fixed to the stage. "[I said]I was going to burst through that, and I'm going to serve!"

Rain Phoenix is reflecting on how her brother's death forever shaped her view of life — and her relationship with mortality.

In an emotional new essay published on Another Jane Pratt Thing on Friday, October 31, the 52-year-old actress shared that losing River Phoenix at just 23 years old led her to what she calls a "vibrant relationship with death." The actor died of an accidental drug overdose outside The Viper Room in 1993, a tragedy that Rain says she initially coped with by "shutting it out."

"But that somehow kept him from me," she wrote, per Page Six, marking the 32nd anniversary of her brother's passing. "Now 32 years and many losses later, a deepening curiosity about death, grief and how we as a society process it, has come alive for me."

That curiosity inspired Rain to study the "death-positive movement," a growing cultural shift that encourages people to speak openly about death and dying. During the pandemic, she even trained to become a "death doula," a person who supports others emotionally and spiritually through the dying process. "My anxiety led me to take an online course on how to become a death doula and write a million songs," she explained.

River, who rose to fame in the 1980s with roles in Stand by Me, The Mosquito Coast, and Running on Empty, remains one of Hollywood's most celebrated talents gone too soon. His younger brother, actor Joaquin Phoenix, has also reflected on River's lasting impact, recently describing him on This Past Weekend as "the guiding light in some ways" of their family.

"My brother was quite a force… Maybe it's because he was the first son and he was incredible," Joaquin, 51, said of his brother. "He was kind of like the guiding light in some ways. He was the one who acted first. We used to sing on the streets and he played guitar and kind of like oversaw everybody." Joaquin was just 19 years old when River died.
